Game reserves
Matetsi River Lodge in Zimbabwe is set on the banks of the magnificent Zambezi river. Daily activities include morning and afternoon game drives, Zambezi river cruises and touring the Victoria Falls, about 30 miles from the Lodge. Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa's northern KwaZulu-Natal region is known for its wildlife and extensive safari activities. Pom Pom Camp in Botswana is located at the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve and it is famous for its majestic scenery and a genuine Okavango Delta experience. Sausage Tree Camps in Zambia has a stunning location by the Zambezi river in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Best time to travel
The summer months are December to March, autumn is April to May, winter is June to August, and spring is September to November. Each region's offerings change with the seasons, when you go may determine where you go. The Coast -- South Africa's southwestern coast tends to attract the majority of international visitors during the summer months. Inland -- May to August are considered the best months for sighting big game. June to October, however, is peak season in the Delta, Botswana; game-viewing is best at this time, thanks to the rains. Given the low-volume approach to tourism, lodges are booked months in advance. The Delta is often combined with a visit to Victoria Falls, but the Falls are widely considered most impressive in full flood, between March and May.
